Welcome to the Newark Natural Foods Co-op Sustainability Blog!
The Sustainability Committee is an active committe of the Co-op reporting to the Board of Stewards.
The committee is concerned with issues that reach beyond the Food Co-op and the broader community. Such concerns are greener energy, genetically modified foods, organic and local farming, and other community building initiatives.
The committee has two goals -
First is to help fulfill the Co-op's mission of educating its membership. We do this by providing lectures, seminars, movies, and hands-on demonstrations.
Second is to provide the Co-op's support and represenatation to other organizations that share our common goals.
Past topics have been: lectures on permaculture, timebanking, and fracking near the Delaware River; documentaries on biodynamic farming, community gardens, peak oil, and local economies; and sometimes we just had fun learning how to create art from used materials and how to make a worm composting bin.
